Final Reflections on my 6-Week ImpactR Challenge

Final Reflections on my 6-Week ImpactR Challenge

Some final reflections after completing my 6-week ImpactR challenge, including daily motivation for healthful living, and 3 key takeaways!

When I first connected with the ImpactR team about the opportunity to work with them as an ambassador, my initial response had been to send an appreciative email saying thank you, but no thank you. With everything going on in my life (you can read some updates on Instagram if you missed them!), I didn’t particularly feel in a position to take on anything new or extra.

But something made me pause and reconsider. Maybe it was an itch to get back into a fitness routine. Maybe it was the desire to try something new. Or maybe I realised that taking a bit of time to take care of myself and my health and wellness could only be a good thing. Whatever it was, I am glad that despite my reservations, I took the plunge and dived in.

THE WINDOW

‘15 minutes is the window.’ Deanna said this during one of our workout sessions. Have you noticed how she is always dropping nuggets of absolute gold?! This one especially stuck with me. Because it’s so true. One of my biggest takeaways from finishing this 6-week challenge was the achievement of taking that first step back into a fitness routine, and the rippling effect that can have.

It starts with just 15 minutes. You can do almost anything for 15 minutes, right? It’s a small window of time that feels super attainable and realistic. Getting in those 15 minutes is such a huge win, in and of itself!

But those 15 minutes can also lead to more. For me, this 6-week ImpactR challenge motivated me to incorporate other healthy changes in my life. It made me want to stretch more and get back into doing yoga. That could be because I was so sore from the sessions that stretching sounded so good! I didn’t get back to long yoga practices like I’ve done in the past. But I was more mindful about doing even 5 minutes of stretching before and after sessions, and on days off as well. It also made me want to go for longer walks outside, and to eat foods that supported my increased activity.

Once you get going with a challenge like this, I think it’s so natural to add on more healthy lifestyle practices. Stretching to support your body, other forms of exercise, eating more healthfully to support your workouts, the list goes on. All from that one act of getting going and getting started.

By the end of the 6 weeks I felt motivated to ride that momentum, to challenge myself further and see what the future might bring.

FINAL TAKEAWAYS

Thinking back on this challenge, there are a few key takeaways that I think made all the difference:

  • ACCOUNTABILITY – I know that I wouldn’t have pushed myself nearly as hard as Deanna (and Jeremy in Week 6!) pushed me. And on those days when I wasn’t really feeling a workout, knowing Deanna was expecting me to show up was a huge motivation to get the workout in and make it a count.
  • SCHEDULING – I had a goal of 3x/week for the 6-week challenge, and scheduled those in with Deanna. I don’t know about you, but having something prioritised in my calendar means it actually gets done!
  • VARIETY – Over 6 weeks I did a total of 18 sessions with Deanna, and each one of those felt unique. Every session was a whole new beast to tackle, a new challenge to complete, and that really kept things fun and engaging.

It’s now been a few weeks since I finished off the 6-week challenge. To be completely honest, I’ve taken a bit of a break. Not completely! I have my ImpactR set up in a corner of the room, making it super easy to just pick up and do some exercises during the off times of my day. And I think breaks can be so important too.

But I’m feeling that itch to get back into it again, and I think having these three components built into my future fitness plans will make all the difference. I’ll keep you updated on how I go!
