Genesis, a 100% plant-based alchemy restaurant serving organic vegan food in a fast-casual dining environment, opened its doors in September 2018. Their menu boasts a diverse spread of dishes from all over the world, including Israel, Mexico, Malaysia, India, and New York. All are made from high-quality ingredients that are non-GMO and certified organic by The Soil Association, promoting health and sustainability.
ATMOSPHERE:
The décor of Genesis really sets this space apart. We sat on a plush pink bench at a pink-tiled table. Our food arrived on beautiful pastel dishes. Potted plants and cacti dotted the area, and the walls featured neon signs. Yet there’s a distinctly casual feel, with food ordered at the counter. It was quite busy while we were there, and the queue at the counter was long at times. But it moved quickly, and our food came in good time.
MY SHORTLIST:
‘Love is Green’ Tea
This herbal and non-caffeinated tea, made from carrot, spinach, pear, and apple, had the most wonderful smell and subtle flavour.
Kimchi Fries, with sriracha mayo
This was the stand-out dish for both me and my friend. The combination of fries with kimchi is honestly genius. Flavourful and crunchy kimchi contrasted perfectly with salty fries and spicy sriracha mayo, with just the right amount of kick. This plate was delicious!
Turmeric Cauliflower
The vibrant colour of the Turmeric Cauliflower was just the start of what I loved about this dish. The bright yellow chargrilled cauliflower provided the perfect dramatic backdrop for the green tahini sauce, which added a lovely creaminess. The flaked almonds, ruby pomegranate seeds, and sultanas gave even more texture and sweetness to the whole ensemble.
Char Kway Teow Malaysian Street Noodles
This dish was another favourite of ours. The brown rice noodles were beautifully cooked, and topped with stir-fried vegetables with a tasty spicy black bean sauce to finish.
Which would be your favourite dish?!

My Review of Buffalo Vegan Diner, a new vegan spot in East London with an epic weekend brunch menu, providing fantastic value and delicious breakfast classics – all veganised.
Buffalo Vegan Diner just recently opened its doors in East London and has already been making exciting developments with its menu and upcoming events. Specialising in spicy cauliflower wings and burgers, they recently started serving up an epic brunch on the weekends. I was kindly invited to come try out the spread and was really impressed by the large portions, variety of food, and high-quality! It’s great value for money (£13 for a large brunch plate and unlimited toast) and makes for a lovely brunch out.
ATMOSPHERE:
Buffalo Vegan Diner is bright, spacious, and welcoming. There’s a distinct rustic vibe, and a reel of feel-good oldies playing in the background. My friend and I spent over two hours enjoying a leisurely brunch, and could have lingered even longer. The staff is cheerful and friendly, and shared with us future plans to expand their menu, as well as a number of onsite cool vegan events in the near future.
MY SHORTLIST:
My friend and I both got the ‘Buffalo Breakfast of Champions’, and I have to say it is appropriately named! The menu’s meal description: Scrambled tofu, sausages, bubble ‘n squeak, smoky maple seitan baycon, Buffalo baked beans, avocado, roasted vine tomatoes. Served with rocket & spinach salad & unlimited toast.
Here’s my break-down:
Scrambled tofu – The texture of this was spot on and very much resembled scrambled eggs.
Bubble ‘n squeak – I don’t believe I’ve ever tried bubble ‘n squeak before. Or if I have, then I was unaware of its delightful name! Bubble ‘n squeak is a traditional breakfast dish made from potato and cabbage, and while it may sound a bit odd, I am completely sold! Ours was made with potato, cabbage, spinach and thyme. It was soft and fluffy and I enjoyed the subtle flavours.
Buffalo baked beans – These were definitely the highlight of the plate for both me and my friend. I have been a fan of baked beans since arriving in the UK five years ago. These beans were something else! They had a slight sweet and smoky flavour and came in an adorable tin container that fit in perfectly with the rustic theme of the place.
Smoky maple seitan baycon – I think I am one of the rare few who was never a fan of bacon. But I’m always up for trying a vegan version, and I loved the smoky maple flavour of this! Seitan isn’t my favourite meat replacement, but I think it mimics the feel and look of bacon almost identically.
I need to go back and try the rest of Buffalo Vegan Diner’s weekday menu. Especially if it’s anything like their brunch! What’d be your favourite part of this brunch menu?

Honestly, this is hands down the best pizza I have ever had in my life.
Purezza, the Italian word for ‘purity’, is the first vegan pizzeria in the UK, serving up award-winning plant-based Italian cuisine. Their food is all made in-house, with their pizza dough bases made fresh every day. I have been wanting to check this place off my London Vegan Bucket List for ages, and was so excited to try out their buzzworthy menu last week.
ATMOSPHERE:
Upon entering, Purezza has a distinctly modern yet laid-back vibe. It was quite busy when we arrived (wait times can be nearly an hour during their peak times) which was encouraging to see! The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, and led us upstairs into a cute and cosy area. Then our evening of feasting began.
MY SHORTLIST:
Appetisers:
Jarr’s Ginger Kombucha – ‘Imagine your favourite ginger beer, but healthier, with more zing, and even more delicious. Freshly juiced ginger root is added to our original recipe for a zesty and fiery delight.’
I don’t drink alcohol, and it was a pleasant surprise to get offered kombucha as an alternative. This is the nicest kombucha I have ever had! It doesn’t have any bitter aftertaste. Instead it’s got a delicious flavour with a bit of zing from the ginger.
Raw Cheese Platter – ‘Artisan cashew-based cheese board, fermented and matured for over ten days with a variety of tantalising flavours.’
Being lactose intolerant, I have never been a big eater of cheese. I know some vegan cheese has a bad reputation, but eating my way through this cheese board was a very enjoyable experience. It came with four different flavours of hard cheeses: Goji berries, Paprika and Chilli, Parmesan, Apricot and Acai. The Paprika and Chilli was my favourite. The platter also included a creamy cheesy dip, which we used as a dipping sauce for our pizza later. The baked crackers were also crunchy and had a smoky flavour.
Courgetti Spaghetti – ‘Raw spiralised courgettes mixed with a creamy pesto sauce and juicy sundried tomatoes.’
I had heard that Purezza’s pesto sauce was not to be missed. I would absolutely agree. The pesto sauce had a lovely subtle flavour – not too overpoweringly rich, as I can find some pesto sauces to be. The raw courgetti spaghetti noodles were light and made for a great appetiser.
Pizzas:
Sourdough Bases: ‘Made with a ‘type 2’ wholegrain flour, our sourdough pizzas are left to mature for a minimum of 48 hours. This enhances the flavour and digestibility, making them extra light and fluffy.’
Purezza gives you the option of picking between their three pizza bases: REGULAR sourdough base, HEMP flour base, and GLUTEN FREE. We tried the regular sourdough base on one pizza, and the hemp flour base on another, and honestly both were out of this world. Both bases were thick and puffy and yet incredibly airy and fluffy just as promised. The regular sourdough was beautifully light and the hemp had a lovely earthly flavour to it. I would definitely recommend both.
Parmigiana Party – ‘Smoked mozzarella, fried aubergine parmigiana, sliced seitan sausages, topped with basil leaves and a dusting of nutritional yeast.’
This is Purezza’s award winning pizza – in fact it won the National Pizza Award for best pizza in the UK over 13 non-vegan finalists! The competition was judged on flavour profile, presentation, texture, choice of ingredients and how the base is made, and I could definitely see why it won. We got it with the regular sourdough base. The flavour was delectable, the cheese on point, and the tofu sausages were insanely realistic.
Special Pizza: ‘The Fall’ –‘Truffle cream and mozzarella base, yellow tomatoes, smoked tofu, rosemary chestnuts, cashew cream.’
Our favourite pizza was this special, which we got with the hemp base. The cheese on this pizza was honestly something else! It had a hint of sweetness, which contrasted perfectly with the spicy chilli flakes, which gave an occasional delightful kick. The yellow tomatoes also added bursts of freshness, and the tofu was crispy and packed with flavour.
