OVERVIEW:
Buffalo Vegan Diner just recently opened its doors in East London and has already been making exciting developments with its menu and upcoming events. Specialising in spicy cauliflower wings and burgers, they recently started serving up an epic brunch on the weekends. I was kindly invited to come try out the spread and was really impressed by the large portions, variety of food, and high-quality! It’s great value for money (£13 for a large brunch plate and unlimited toast) and makes for a lovely brunch out.
ATMOSPHERE:
Buffalo Vegan Diner is bright, spacious, and welcoming. There’s a distinct rustic vibe, and a reel of feel-good oldies playing in the background. My friend and I spent over two hours enjoying a leisurely brunch, and could have lingered even longer. The staff is cheerful and friendly, and shared with us future plans to expand their menu, as well as a number of onsite cool vegan events in the near future.
MY SHORTLIST:
My friend and I both got the ‘Buffalo Breakfast of Champions’, and I have to say it is appropriately named! The menu’s meal description: Scrambled tofu, sausages, bubble ‘n squeak, smoky maple seitan baycon, Buffalo baked beans, avocado, roasted vine tomatoes. Served with rocket & spinach salad & unlimited toast.
Here’s my break-down:
- Scrambled tofu – The texture of this was spot on and very much resembled scrambled eggs.
- Bubble ‘n squeak – I don’t believe I’ve ever tried bubble ‘n squeak before. Or if I have, then I was unaware of its delightful name! Bubble ‘n squeak is a traditional breakfast dish made from potato and cabbage, and while it may sound a bit odd, I am completely sold! Ours was made with potato, cabbage, spinach and thyme. It was soft and fluffy and I enjoyed the subtle flavours.
- Buffalo baked beans – These were definitely the highlight of the plate for both me and my friend. I have been a fan of baked beans since arriving in the UK five years ago. These beans were something else! They had a slight sweet and smoky flavour and came in an adorable tin container that fit in perfectly with the rustic theme of the place.
- Smoky maple seitan baycon – I think I am one of the rare few who was never a fan of bacon. But I’m always up for trying a vegan version, and I loved the smoky maple flavour of this! Seitan isn’t my favourite meat replacement, but I think it mimics the feel and look of bacon almost identically.
I need to go back and try the rest of Buffalo Vegan Diner’s weekday menu. Especially if it’s anything like their brunch! What’d be your favourite part of this brunch menu?
